The two-year master degree programme of the Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) aids one acquire complete knowledge of food technology-- preservation, processing, packaging, distribution and use of nutritious and safe food.
Selection is done on an all India basis. Started in 1964 and open to graduates, the course comprises essentials of food technology.
Students will be certified by the University of Mysore (UOM) on successful completion of the programme.
Explains human recourse development department head, Varadaraj, "MSc in food technology is a multidisciplinary programme. Through the two-year programme, some subjects our students study food engineering, mathematics, chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, fermentation, packaging, animal products, operation, research and accountancy. CFTRI is the only institution in India to offer a master's degree in the subject. Hence, selection is done on the basis of 60 pc marks obtained in degree and 50 pc marks obtained in an entrance exam conducted by us." BOX:Eligibility:Admission is based on merit as evidenced by academic records of the qualifying degree exams and also on the performance in the entrance examination. The minimum qualification is a bachelor's degree in science with chemistry as one of the major subjects, along with the students having studied mathematics as a subject in plus II level.
What is taught?Basic and food microbiology, chemistry of foods, applied mathematics and statistics, principles of food processing, food engineering, packaging technology, fruits and vegetable technology, food plant organization and management.
